By: Liteye Systems The WEAR (Wearable Augmented Reality) program is a lightweight and compact tool that superimposes text, graphics and video onto an astronaut’s field of view. The WEAR system provides localized maintenance information for handling complex equipment just as the astronaut requires it. The system uses voice activated commands. This allows both hands of an astronaut to remain free to perform necessary tasks. The system completed its first in orbit test on September 19th. “The Liteye Model 750A is a rugged and reliable HMD used by many of the NATO military forces. It was a natural fit for use in the WEAR project for the International Space Station,” said Tom Scott, President of Liteye Systems. “We are very proud that the Model 750A was chosen by Space Application Services to be the visualization component in a tool to perform complex maintenance and keep the space station in orbit.” The Model 750A is a high performance, ruggized HMD that meets military specification and was created for situational awareness applications. The 750A is available in full color SVGA and/or composite video. This lightweight versatile product combines low distortion, high performance optics with an OLED microdisplay optimum for portable computing and remote viewing ABOUT LITEYE SYSTEMS Liteye Systems, Incorporated (http://www.Liteye.com), located in Centennial Colorado, is a world leading provider of rugged, high-resolution, head mounted displays (HMD) and micro imaging solutions.
