Follow on Google News | Andrea Daryn Wilder Crowned Miss Cheyney UniversityOn October 5, 2009, Ms. Andrea Darlyn Wilder was crowned Miss Cheyney University. As Miss Cheyney University, Andrea will serve as an important ambassador of Cheyney University spirit, representing CU at various pageants and special events.
By: Office of Public Relations In addition to her academic accomplishments, Andrea Wilder is very involved in student and leadership activities. She is the vice president of the Cheyney University Soulful Sound Marching Band; treasurer of the Student Activities Program Board; dancer for the Cheyney University Soulful Sound Marching Band; a member of the Women’s Tennis Team; a member of the National Council for Negro Women; and a mentor for Big Brother and Big Sisters of Southeastern Pennsylvania program. In a beautiful, under the stars ceremony, with hundreds of students, faculty, staff, friends, and family in attendance, Andrea Wilder was crowned by Ms. Imani Rose Johnson (Miss Cheyney University, 2008-2009) who still serves as an ambassador for Cheyney University by helping to recruit students to the Urban Center in Philadelphia. Ms. Imani Rose Johnson is also currently weighing her options for graduate study. Following the ceremony was a reception for all in attendance. In her acceptance speech, Andrea spoke about the need for all students to contribute to the excellence of Cheyney University. Andrea has appreciated Cheyney University for some time; she attended College for Teens every summer before matriculating. As a sophomore, Andrea represented Cheyney University in an internship at the Walt Disney World Corporation for six months in Orlando, Florida. While interning, she participated in classes via the Internet and maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Andrea Wilder will serve as Miss Cheyney University for the entire academic year. Her responsibilities will include representing Cheyney University at official functions, participating as an ambassador for the University, and speaking to high school and college/university students. # # # Cheyney University is the nation’s oldest historically Black institution of higher education, and the only HBCU in the PA State System of Higher Education. It offers baccalaureate degrees in more than 30 disciplines and six master’s degree programs. End
