Follow on Google News | Saint Mary’s School Field Hockey To Go Pink For "Play 4 The Cure" Breast Cancer EventField hockey teams at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh will leave their school colors in the locker room, don pink jerseys and socks, and play with a pink ball on Tues., October 20, as part of the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s “Play 4 the Cure.”
By: Mary Virginia Swain The varsity team from Saint Mary’s will match up against Durham Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Nimocks Field on the Saint Mary’s School campus at 900 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. The jayvee game, also versus D.A., starts at 5:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted, with all proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation. “October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the height of the field hockey season in the United States, and we are taking this opportunity to create awareness in our local community with our participation in this nationwide event,” says Saint Mary’s School Athletic Director Seth Lieberman. “This is a merger of passion for the sport and a give-back opportunity, and we are creating a winning combination of athletics and humanitarianism.” Founded in 1842, Saint Mary's School in Raleigh is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school, dedicated to academic excellence and personal achievement for young women in grades 9-12.
