“I was shocked and deeply saddened upon hearing the news of yesterday’s tragedy at Fort Hood. My thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt sympathy are with the family and friends of America’s brave soldiers and law enforcement personnel who were killed or wounded during the gunman’s senseless act of violence.

“As a retired veteran of the United States Marine Corps, I can attest that the last thing you expect is for one of your fellow comrades in arms to suddenly become your enemy. The fact such tragedies rarely occur is a testament to the esprit de corps the men and women in our military continually exhibit in the most trying of circumstances.

“Americans should take time out of every day to reflect upon and be thankful for the service, sacrifices, and steadfast resolve of members of our armed forces as they fight to keep us all free and safe during the War on Terror.”

Wardell is a medically retired 17-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Japan and Africa with the Department of State. Wardell is married with two children and is a third generation warrior. His Mother and Father are both Veterans who live in Las Vegas, as was his grandfather, a WWII Vet, who is now deceased.
