By: Le Meridien Malta Paul Galea’s works are an appreciation of our everyday surroundings bathed in a coloured beauty that may often be missed by the common eye. The environment that enveloped his native town, Rabat, particularly the pure countryside that surrounded his childhood residence, was the foundation stone of his artistic life. Landscapes and local themes remained his favourite subjects even as he matured as an artist. Galea’s selection of works in the ‘Variations’ Carmel Bonello studied art at the School of Art and has a diploma in fine art. An ardent expressionist, he also executes figures, faces and abstract drawings. He is influenced by Picasso. He also uses discards and links these objects into art. Using smooth circular movements, he can also compose very serene, Madonna and Child figures. A few brush strokes can evoke a mood, an atmosphere. Bonello is bold and forceful, spreading his depiction of urban and rural local scenes with gusto, encompassing them in a graphic design, and giving them an aura of his expressionist fervour. The artist has held several solo exhibitions in Malta and abroad. Many of his works are found in public spaces and private collections and abroad, especially in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United States. He will be exhibiting both abstract art and his Madonna portraits. "Variations" # # # Luxury 5 star hotel in Malta, overlooking the Mediterranean in pretty Balluta Bay, St Julians.
