Nov. 20, 2009 - PRLog -- Paul Starling at Chadwicks, explains why UV Flexo printing offers many more benefits than other methods

UV Flexographic printing provides unrivalled benefits to players in the fast-moving world of food and beverages and printing processes play a huge part in determining the overall quality and finish of a product. By selecting a high quality printing method, manufacturers can ensure products have added shelf appeal and survive the competitive retail industry.

UV Flexo provides a range of benefits for the packaging of FMCG products and is widely considered as the leading printing process used in the industry.

Chadwicks uses this method of printing for most of its customers’ projects due to the quality it delivers on all levels. In fact, we recently invested £1.2 million in new equipment, including a new eight-colour MPS Flexo press, which has helped us to continue to deliver only the best quality products to our customers and achieve excellent turnaround times.

UV Flexo technology provides a higher quality print and is more competitive than lithographic printing. It delivers a professional finish, maintains colour consistency, provides low origination costs and is particularly cost-effective on short to medium runs, which is something that we specialise in. Here we take a more in depth look at the benefits of UV Flexo technology:

Professional finish

The image and design are transferred onto the lid material via flexible rubber or plastic plates that are constructed with slightly raised components and correspond to the design of the lid. The plates are then rotated on a cylinder to transfer the design with precision onto the facestock material.

Colour consistency

Achieving vibrancy and clarity in colour is the key to making sure a product jumps off the shelves. UV Flexo printing uses a wide range of inks and our dedicated ink lab team ensures that all our customers’ colour standards are consistently met on all substrates. The method of UV Flexo works with all our mainstream lid materials, including polyester, aluminium foils and laminates, allowing us to create a product that meets the customer’s needs.

Our use of speciality inks and finishes, such as metallics and embossing patterns provides a product with added value and shelf appeal, as well as heightened protection against scuffs and fading.

Cost efficiency

We are dedicated to delivering excellent value for money for our customers and aim to keep costs to a minimum wherever possible. UV Flexo technology is one way that we are able to do this.

The inks that we use have a fast-drying formula that allows us to achieve faster high quality production, resulting in increased overall efficiency and lower costs for us and our customers. Chadwicks works closely with external reprographics houses and platemakers who are constantly developing new techniques on plate technology to identify more efficient tools and methods of working.

Finally the reliable print quality also ensures that re-runs, re-prints and waste products are kept to a minimum and the efficiency of the plate-changing process allows for fast turnarounds and less down-time, making UV Flexo the leading printing technology for food and beverage packaging.
