Gina Sanchez named “Hispanic Woman of the Year” and was honored with “Gina Sanchez Day.”

Dec. 1, 2009 - PRLog -- Last month, Gina Sanchez, financial stability coordinator for La Casa de Esperanza in Waukesha, was named “Hispanic Woman of the Year” for Southeastern Wisconsin and was honored with “Gina Sanchez Day” proclaimed by Waukesha Mayor Larry Nelson.  Gina is a child abuse survivor with a childhood of physical, verbal, sexual, and drug abuse as part of her daily environment.  Working with Healthy Families of Waukesha County, Gina acquired the skills, confidence, and ongoing support for healthy living and parenting that led her to complete her GED at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) and obtain full-time employment.  Today, Gina is a 2009 graduate of the Latino Non-Profit Leadership Program through UWM.  

A role model for many, Gina gives back to her local community by serving as an honorary board member of Healthy Families of Waukesha County.  She also serves on the Waukesha Hispanic Collaborative Network, Family Empowerment Team, Energy Consortium, Amigos de Milwaukee Rotary Club, and the Domestic Violence Team.  Ms. Sanchez continues to be an advocate for child abuse and neglect prevention and has served as a panelist on “Voices for Hope” for Governor Jim Doyle’s “Call For Action Against Child Abuse for the State of Wisconsin.”
