Could This Be The Next Big Show Of People Power?

There was an unprecedented response to Jon Morter's Facebook campaign to make Rage Against the Machine Christmas number 1 instead of the dross churned out be Simon Cowell's X-Factor. Can people power do the same to celebrate the talent of Ian Dury?

Jan. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- The chosen tune ''Spasticus Autisticus' from Ian Dury and the Blockheads 1991 album 'Warts and All'  for Number 1 in the week of 27th March 2010

Reasons Spasticus Autisticus should be Number 1... 1,2,3!

1. In 1981 the song was banned by the BBC because of the use of the word spastic and they didn't even try to see what point Ian were trying to get across. it's about time this genius of a song gets the recognition it deserves.

2. The 27th March will be the 10th anniversary of Ian Dury's death, and what better to celebrate his life than getting his most personal song up for all the world to hear.

3. On January 8th 2010 the BBC Radio 6 pulled a brand new radio documentary about Ian Dury and The Blockheads the day before it was due to be aired due to its inclusion of the song! 29 years later they still don't get it...

The live version has been chosed because it features The Blockheads and the studio version didn't (Chaz Jankel plus Sly and Robbie). The Blockheads are also out on tour the week that this event will be taking place and members of the band will be in a great position to discuss and steal headlines away from whatever Cowell has cooking that week and whatever sexist crap the BBC is playing on its chart programmes...

Here's something for you to think about if you think the song is against the disabled cause or the use of the word spastic

Maxim Thompson's Facebook group 'Spasticus Autisticus for Number 1 in the week of 27th March 2010' will during the week of 14th March (14th - 20th), post the link and make group members aware of where to buy Spasticus Autisticus from (iTunes and / or Amazon).

So get everyone onto this, and make it more epic than any no.1 ever. Let's celebrate Ian in a way that would have made him proud of us!
