Record used van sales in December 2009 due to VAT and commercial vehicle tax break changes

Used van prices have been steadily rising over 2009, yet used commercial vehicles bought before the end of January 2010 benefit from both the current lower VAT rate and 100% tax relief on all commercial vehicle purchases. "We've sold an incredible number of used vans just in the last couple of weeks, and practically all of the buyers we've sold to have commented on the VAT rate changes and the end of the commercial vehicle tax relief in the New Year," commented Simon. "It's made a big difference to the businesses that need to buy commercial vehicles, and so making that purchase before the end of the year has been good business sense. It's not rocket science to realise that purchasing a used van in December meant that it was 2.5% cheaper than in January."
