As many parents grow more skeptical of the traditional medical approach to ADHD, chiropractors around the country are offering promising results with non-drug treatments.  Dr. Aaron MacArthur of Portland has been working with patients on postural muscles, nutrition and lifestyle changes that affect brain activity and can reduce symptoms.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is extremely subjective in both diagnosis and treatment. No single cause has yet been determined for this disorder nor has there been a single treatment plan that is effective in a majority of cases. “Research is revealing that there may be a connection to abnormalities in the spine, the nervous system and brain,” states Dr. Aaron MacArthur, of Portland Chiropractic Neurology.

Dr. MacArthur has been offering ADHD patients non-drug and non-invasive treatment alternatives that target musculoskeletal imbalance. “We are working to treat the cause and not just the symptoms,” Dr. MacArthur explains. “Many ADHD patients have a musculoskeletal imbalance which impacts their brain activity. Essentially, one part of the brain is developing at a different rate than the other side. We are finding that movement of the spine can help alleviate this imbalance and bring positive behavioral changes.”
