Elant At Brandywine Welcomes New Director Of Social Work

Feb. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Briarcliff Manor – Elant at Brandywine, a 131-bed, non-profit nursing home and rehabilitation center in Briarcliff Manor, is pleased to welcome Mariama (Mariam) Dauda as its new director of Social Work.

Dauda, who received her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Ghana and her Masters degree in Social Work at Columbia University, excels in case management and assessment and takes a very creative approach to social work.

“Mariam’s background in mental health is extensive and her passion and dedication to the residents are evident,” said Elant at Brandywine Assistant Administrator Maura Brennan. “She has already proven to be an outstanding addition to the team.”

Perhaps Dauda’s most impressive and rewarding work has been as assistant director to the National Council on Women and Development in Ghana. She has coordinated educational and social programs for women and has monitored various field projects for improving the social and economic conditions for women in her native country.

She maintained close and continuous contact with political representatives of Ghana and coordinated public elections as district electoral director for the Electoral Commission of Ghana. Earlier in her career she worked for the Ministry of Education in the Upper West Region of Ghana supervising rural non-formal education projects.

Dauda’s experiences have helped her become incredibly diverse and sensitive to others needs, including those affected by illness, the aging process, mental health disorders, poverty, and discrimination. Dauda’s skills in lobbying and advocacy for others will give Elant at Brandywine a solid social work foundation.
