Feb. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Community Day provides an opportunity for the university to invite neighbors and friends to the campus to learn about its students, faculty, alumni, programs, and more.  Cheyney University's mission is to prepare confident, competent, reflective, visionary leaders and responsible citizens. However, their commitment to service extends beyond the classroom. The administration cites an obligation to produce graduates that are respected members of their communities throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, nation and the world.  Community Day is a great opportunity to showcase the talents of campus community members as well as build relationships in support of the university.

This year, Cheyney University will hold its community event in conjunction with the First Annual Thornbury 5K/10K race.  Registration for the race begins at 7:30AM and the race will kicks off at 9AM.  This is an out and back race starting and ending on the University's main campus.  The route will be measured and clearly marked with course marshals to guide the way.  More information regarding the race may be found at www.runccrs.com.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Delaware Valley Lion's Club.  Lions Club International is the largest service club organization in the world with over 1.3 million members worldwide.  The Delaware Valley Chapter is just one of over 45,000.  Lions Clubs have traditionally focused on providing a helping hand to the blind and visually impaired as well as helping others in the community facing hardship.  The Delaware Valley Chapter also helps Thornbury Township by handling concessions at some Thornbury Park events such as Memorial Day and Independence Day.

There will also be children's races on the University's track and field.  Coupled with the CU Community Day activities, the event promises to be a fun-filled family affair. Highlights of the day include a mini-health fair, petting zoo, face painting, student art exhibit, theatrical performances, and much more.  A detailed listing of events and activities may be found on the University's website at www.cheyney.edu.

Cheyney University's Community Day is free and opened to the public.
