Sarah Plain and Tall

"Sarah Plain and Tall" based off the Newberry Award-Winning book by Patricia MacLachlan and adapted by Peter Robinette will be playing at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre from April 23, 2010 to May 2, 2010.

March 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Set in 1910 during the Progressive Era, this play brings to life the heartwarming story of Jacob Witting and his two young children, Anna and Caleb. A widowed Kansas farmer, Jacob places an ad in the newspapers in search of a wife. He receives a letter from Sarah Wheaton, a resident of Maine, who writes that she will visit the family for a month in order to get to know them and see what events unfold. She says, “I will come by train. I will wear a yellow bonnet. I am plain and tall.”

Narrated by daughter Anna’s grown-self and portrayed through a series of flashbacks, this charming tale comes to life, allowing the audience to witness the exciting and tumultuous journey that Sarah and the Wittings undertake. Director Penelope Notter states that, “Sarah Plain and Tall is a timeless American tale filled with sturdy, honest and hard-working characters.” Audiences of all ages are sure to be touched by this play whether it be watching the family learn to sing together again or witnessing the birth of a lasting relationship between Jacob and Sarah. Notter hopes that “families will attend as one to share in this wonderful story.”

Having received the 2004 Distinguished Play Award from The American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE), Sarah Plain and Tall is sure to be a delightful and memorable experience for the entire family.
