March 18, 2010 - PRLog -- BURLINGTON, N.C. (March 18, 2010)  – Ready to taste the retirement lifestyle? Enjoy a cooking demonstration, delectable desserts and a presentation on retirement options by The Village at Brookwood (http://www.villageatbrookwood.org), a LifeCare Community located in central North Carolina.

The Village’s Executive Chef Larry Jones, named 2009 Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Foundation’s Triad Chapter, will demonstrate his cooking techniques at the Siena Hotel in Chapel Hill on March 24. Individuals interested in exploring options for retirement living will enjoy the presentation and learn about The Village and the benefits of a community that offers LifeCare.  Members of The Village will also be on hand to talk about their experiences and answer questions about living in the ultimate active adult community.

“In this changing economic landscape, soon-to-be retirees and those who are looking at the ‘second phase’ of retirement often have questions about the next phase of life and what kind of lifestyle will be right for them,” said Kent Kirchin, retirement counselor. “Now they have the chance to hear from the ‘real’ people who live at The Village and have first-hand knowledge of how an active, engaging lifestyle with the added benefit of being able to age in place leads to a more fulfilled, healthier, happier life.”

LifeCare Communities offer residents a continuum of care and assure access to assisted living or full health care in private on-site accommodations. Residents invest in their future health care with entrance fees and monthly fees that typically offer the benefit of significant tax deductions. The Village at Brookwood is a centrally located LifeCare community in Burlington, N.C., and is affiliated with Alamance Regional Medical Center.

“A cornerstone of our philosophy at The Village at Brookwood is wellness,” said Kirchin. “At The Village, there are myriad opportunities for engaging in an active, healthy lifestyle. Our new Aquatic and Wellness Center offers a state-of-the-art indoor, heated saltwater pool and whirlpool spa, along with exercise classes, a fitness room and massage therapy. Our members take many overnight trips each year and excursions each month to historical sites and cultural events. And there are book clubs, art classes, volunteer opportunities and, of course, the delectable fine dining prepared by the award-winning Chef Larry Jones.”

Individuals can choose to attend either of the “Dessert, Coffee and a Taste of The Village Life” programs, which will be offered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, at the Siena Hotel, located at 1505 E. Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Dessert and coffee will be served during the sessions, and attendees will have the opportunity ask questions and gather literature.

“It’s important for people to make decisions about their retirement while they have the ability to independently make those decisions,” Kirchin said. “The more knowledge they have about financial and lifestyle options, the better prepared they will be to plan the next phase of their lives.”
