By: The Medical City The MMG, as fondly called by its proponents and followers, has been calling for "an evolution" in Physical Therapy practice since its inception in 2007. MMG practices have been called "Alternative" With three workshops already under its belt for 2010, the MMG has now opened registration for its next workshop. The Clinical Upgrade Session will be on April 11, 2010. Venue will be the AICA at Pasig City, Philippines. This Session will mainly focus on Hands-on Solutions for Somatic Dysfunctions of the Lumbosacral Area and Pelvis. The Manual Medicine Group has begun to invite practitioners with a keen interest in "what works" in Physical Rehabilitation to see what the current mainstream Manipulation and Mobilization Techniques can do to enrich their clinical practice. The Manual Medicine Group has successfully conducted its first three Workshops for the year 2010. These Neuromyofascial Workshops (Two Cervical and One Shoulder Session) highlighted the level of integration between the Neural network and the Myofascial System. The "Intelligent" This level of integration is especially easy to see when a "simple" system such as the shoulder girdle is examined and treated. Indeed, the Shoulder Treatment Workshop featured live demonstrations of an Integrative Correction Technique that adapted heavily from the Positional Release and Muscle Energy Technique modes of treatment. As information becomes more detailed and profuse even in the manual medicine sub-specialties, proven working syntheses become more and more sought out. We can no longer ignore the strengths of techniques we do not know. In thar same fashion, we can no longer treat the body as a machine with localized dysfunctional parts. Rather, we are called to see that the human body is a system of systems, and that it needs treatment syntheses that recognize that fact. Physical Therapists and Medical Doctors have been the primary participants during previous workshops. Thanks to this increasing support from the medical and paramedical communities, the Sharing Sessions of the Manual Medicine Group have been very well received. The MMG however insists that it can do their Series of Workshops even better in the upcoming months and years. The Manual Medicine Group went through an intentional progression through its first three sessions. The Cervical 1 Session came with its own online manual, and was completed as locked to topic as could be managed. The Shoulder 1 Workshop (2010's Session 3) started with an outline meant to run in 8 hours, completed in the standard blitzkreig fashion in just two hours. The MMG added as clarification that while mastery is often achieved only through repetition, exposure to Integrative Techniques and the subsequent dissection of those techniques makes for a very rapid learning curve. "It does take seeing these techniques a few times to get a hang of them," MMG Practitioner Rheysonn Cornilla hastened to add. "I-try nyo lang at nakakatuwa sya, ang galing," adds MMG'er Dionne Chua. ["Just try them, they're both amusing and amazingly effective.] That last translation from the vernacular just might be the best summary of the secret R.D.T. techniques of the MMG, which have to tested to be believed. The MMG then proceeded to go off the map, addressing questions about other techniques, demonstrating proven Protocols by other teachers, and proving what practitoners have clinically demonstrated to work very efficiently: Last Sunday's show-and tell included the latest study evidence (four main RCDB-Multicenter studies, "Grade A" Studies) for the use of shoulder manipulation in place of, and as an exceptional adjunct to Medical, Medical-orthopedic, and Surgical Orthopedic approaches. Several books were also available. These both detailed the evidence for, research behind, and techniques for Manual Medicine Interventions that we used. The MMG also brought along standard physiotherapy and Physical Rehabilitation books from here and abroad. The Manual Med Group has continued to lobby the fact that their demonstrated approaches are standard and mainstream, adding that enduring International HMO coverage backs up the known usefulness and cost-effectiveness of these approaches.
