April 14, 2010 - PRLog -- The Health Business Blog, the first weblog devoted exclusively to health care business and policy, has turned five years old. The blog is celebrating the event with a special birthday edition, highlighting a popular post from each of the past 12 months.

"I launched the Health Business Blog in 2005 to provide commentary on the business of health care and engage readers in policy discussions," said David E. Williams, author of the blog and co-founder of strategy consulting firm MedPharma Partners LLC (http://www.mppllc.com). "I've integrated blogging into my daily routine and have written more than 3000 posts. It's been a very rewarding and educational experience and I look forward to the next five years."

The Health Business Blog's (http://www.healthbusinessblog.com) initial approach was to comment on health care business stories in the popular press, interpreting them from the viewpoint of an experienced health care business consultant. This remains the primary focus. Over the past three years, Williams has also conducted dozens of podcast interviews with health care CEOs and public figures, which are posted on the blog in audio form and then transcribed.

Blog highlights over the past year include podcast interviews with entrepreneurs, commentary in favor of immigration, support for the USPSTF's mammography screening guidelines, explanations of the health care reform debate and discussions of the Meaningful Use provisions of ARRA.

Recently Williams also launched a Twitter feed under the username HealthBizBlog (http://www.twitter.com/HealthBizBlog), and has attracted more than 1500 followers. The Twitter feed allows Williams to post short items and to promote his blog posts. The feed appears on the blog's right hand column as well.

In addition to his blogging and health care consulting roles, Williams is chairman of medical risk management company Advanced Practice Strategies, board member of iCardiac Technologies, and Executive Advisory Board member of the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health. He is also chairman of the Hearts & Noses Hospital Clown Troupe, which provides professionally trained volunteer clowns to hospitalized children and trains hospital clowns from around the world.

Before co-founding MedPharma Partners, Williams worked for several years in the health care practice of the Boston Consulting Group. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School with first year honors, and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wesleyan University, where he majored in economics.
