April 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Starting on May 8th 2010, the Cosenza located Museo del Presente will host an exhibition entirely dedicated to the latest production by artist and glass maestro Silvio Vigliaturo.
This exhibition – curated by Luca Beatrice – intends to be a materialization of the careful considerations developed by Vigliaturo regarding some crucial aspect of today’s reality, and does so through a structure made of several blocks of thought, supported and linked to one another by a central category: Mixture.
The majestic and colorful glass sculptures function as carriers of passionate messages which the artist directs to the spectator with the intention of awakening him to life, to a new awareness and a new intellectual standpoint from which he can confront the reality that surrounds him, often perceived as a blurry blob of information, continuous and numbing.
Vigliaturo theoretical fervor is made of a meticulously analytical part which then morphs into an artistic synthesis, well supported by an essential workmanship –result of a mixture of techniques developed through thirty years of exciting artistic research.
The category of Mixture is declined through a series of works which often take the appearances of real or mythological characters from Ancient Greece, as in the case of the Amazons – a group of twelve sculptures with glass shields and metal spears which represent the female warriors narrated by Aeschylus and Virgil –, or the triptych of Hector, Andromache and Achilles, in which the cold-blooded and self-centered  Achilles, driven only by hunger of fame and success, and ager, is opposed to Hector, the warrior who takes off his helmet in front of his crying son who failed to recognize him. This is, for Vigliaturo, the paradigm of the man capable of giving a future to humanity; the only kind of man who can successfully lead today’s ever-growing  mixture of people and cultures. From Hector we move to Pericles – the great Greek statesman who was the first to undertake an attempt to create a panhellenic colony – and then to Barack Obama.
As a support to the concept of Mixture and its many declinations, positioned at the physical centre of the exhibition, are Vigliaturo’s Equilibrists: three glass and steel sculptures which represent three characters who, infused by the spirit of lightness – beautifully conveyed by the liquid brightness of the glass –, maintain themselves perfectly still and confident, in spite of their apparent precarious equilibrium, emblematical incarnations of a clear and dynamic mind.
