Follow on Google News | Apex Sunrise Rotary to Bring Purple Pinkie Project to Peak FestClub to Raise Polio Awareness in Downtown Apex
By: PRStreet, Inc. The origins of this project relate back to the actual immunization of children. In other countries, when a child receives a vaccine, his/her pinkie is dyed purple. This allows volunteers to be able roam the village and vaccinate any child without a purple pinkie. The Apex Sunrise Rotary Club will host its booth in front of the Fire Station on Salem Street in downtown Apex from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Across the world, Rotary members issue the polio vaccine to patients, dying their pinkies purple to prevent double- dosage. U.S. Rotary Clubs developed the Purple Pinkie Project in which donors’ pinkies are dyed purple as a way to recognize those struggling with the disease. Apex Sunrise Rotary Club will continue this symbolic gesture at Peak Fest in an effort to raise polio awareness. About Apex Sunrise Rotary Club The Apex Sunrise Rotary Club is the Triangle’s newest Rotary Club, receiving its charter in April 2010. The Apex Sunrise Rotary Club meets for breakfast every Tuesday morning at 7:15 am at the TGI Friday’s 1140 Beaver Creek Commons Drive in Apex. Visiting Rotarians and those interested in learning more are invited to attend. Media Contact: Graham Wilson PRStreet (919) 467-5567 gwilson@prstreet.com www.prstreet.com End
