Follow on Google News | Minnesota History Fiction Writer’s TrainingNorthern Minnesota writers are invited to enjoy free training from historical fiction author, William Durbin on Thursday, May 6th. Join Durbin for a writer's workshop followed by a public program honoring Minnesota's history makers.
By: Northwest Regional Library "Durbin is one of today's masters of historical YA fiction,” claims David Gill, of The National Council of Teachers of English. Durbin’s honors include a Great Lakes Book Award, Minnesota Book Award, Bank Street College Children's Book of the Year list, New York Library Books for the Teen Age list, Junior Library Guild Selection, Jefferson Cup Series of Note Award, Book Sense Pick of the Day, Boy's Life Magazine Serialization, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award, Northeast Minnesota Book Award Finalist plus starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly, Kirkus, and Booklist. The day begins at Franklin Middle School with an assembly of 190+ students learning how to research and incorporate Minnesota history into their own stories and plots. At 5 PM, local authors are invited to a free Writer’s Workshop at the Thief River Falls Library on the topic, Writing for Children & Young Adults. During this session, attendees will learn how to narrow down a subject and then develop it with the detail required to make it into a book. The public is welcome to meet Bill Durbin at the 7 PM program entitled, Truth in Historical Fiction. This program is ideal for children and adults as Durbin shares obscure stories about everyday people who make history come alive. The event and book signing to follow occur at the Thief River Falls Library.
