May 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Glen Arden Vice President and Executive Director Maureen Torelli is pleased to announce that two Glen Arden employees have been honored by two state agencies.

Akiko Fox, a resident care assistant in Glen Arden’s Enriched Housing Unit, has been named Employee of the Year by the New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSCAL). Julie Jamsek, a registered nurse in the Glen Arden Health Care Center, was named the District 4’s Registered Nurse of the Year by the New York State Health Facilities Association.

“Akiko and Julie impress me every day with their kind, thoughtful, and compassionate natures,” Ms. Torelli said. “When we asked our residents to describe Akiko, the words that were repeatedly used were ‘sweet,’, ‘lovely,’ and ‘charming;’ she brightens everyone’s day with her bubbly personality. And Julie is loved by the residents and families, respected by the CNAs who work with her, and both respected and admired by her peers. It’s a pleasure to have these two amazing women on the Glen Arden care team.”

Both awards are designed to honor exemplary employees who demonstrate exceptional dedication, innovation, and a positive attitude when dealing with other staffers, residents, residents’ families, and within the community. Akiko, the statewide winner and a recipient of the 2010 Spirit of Elant award, will be recognized with a plaque and $250 at an awards ceremony during the NYSHFA/NYSCAL Annual Convention in June in Lake Placid.

“Akiko adopts each resident into her ‘family’; she experiences true happiness with each success and sadness at each challenge and struggle in the lives of her residents. She is a remarkable individual filled with compassion,” said a family member who nominated Akiko.

“A role model for all of the nursing staff at Glen Arden, Julie has endless patience and never a cross word for anyone; her deep sense of caring comes from her heart and it shows,” said a family member who nominated Julie.
