Why Would Someone Steal My Car?

May 13, 2010 - PRLog -- According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)'s Uniform Crime Reports, a motor vehicle is stolen in the United States every 26.4 seconds.

Why would someone steal your car? “Professional car thieves sometimes steal cars to have them disassembled and sold for spare parts, explains Allstate New York spokesperson Krista Conte,  “or they ship the cars to a foreign country and have them sold in their entirety.” Other times a vehicle can be stolen simply because someone feels like taking a joyride.

In their Auto Theft Prevention Brochure, Allstate Insurance Company suggests the following tips to help protect your vehicle from being stolen:

•   Always roll up your windows and lock your car.

•   Don’t leave valuables in plain view inside your vehicle.

•   Park your car in your garage, driveway or a well-lit area.

•   Never leave your car running unattended.

•   Don’t hide a spare key inside or outside your car.

•   Consider having your VIN etched onto your car windows. Engrave your VIN on your trunk lid and hood.

•   Don’t keep your registration, title or personal information inside your glove box.

•   Keep your car and house keys separate in case you need to give your car keys to a valet.
