Follow on Google News | Pasta Dinner to Support Polio Eradication Sponsored by The Rotary Club of Seymour/OxfordThe Rotary Club of Seymour/Oxford holds May 22, 2010 Fundraiser
By: Melanie Blanco Rotary International is the first service organization consisting of more than 33,000 clubs worldwide. Each club operates by Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self, seeking ways to provide for community needs while promoting world understanding and peace. Only 25 years ago, the poliovirus paralyzed or killed 1,000 people worldwide each day. Since that time Rotary International, in conjunction with the World Health Organization and others, made the commitment to eradicate this horrible disease. To date, more than two billion children have been immunized worldwide. Once a life threatening epidemic, Polio now exists in only four countries. Progress has been made, but the work must continue until no cases exist. Tickets are $10 per person; there is no charge for Polio survivors or children under 5. To obtain tickets in advance or for additional information, contact Seymour-Oxford Rotary Club president, Joyce Barcley, at 203-610-8520 or jbarcley@workplace.org. # # # Rotary International is the first service organization consisting of more than 33,000 clubs worldwide.
