May 22, 2010 - PRLog -- The recent sour news about the faltering Metro Detroit film scene has some economists not thinking so optimistically. The news has featured reports of a major film studio in Allen Park in trouble over some unpaid rent bills. This is just a small segment over some growing problems in Michigan’s economic woes. Metro Detroit is in need of something new.

Ted Cantu is stepping up to the plate in an innovative way. He brings the concept of a living magazine to the Metro Detroit area with Hot Metro Finds. This web site project, www.hotmetrofinds.com, has been the springboard to a lot of rock music bands working out of the D. In addition to the music Cantu has been busy featuring nightclubs, and entertainment spots and metro Detroit night life. The video clips Cantu and Co. are creating are finding their way into YouTube, Revver and Google video just to name a few.

“The clips are fun to watch and are very unpredictable and that’s the way we like them. We throw in a musical act every now and then between interviews with Metro Detroit’s hottest night spots. Everything we do is unscripted.” Says Detroit artist Ted Cantu. This cavalier approach to pop culture has been met with some cynicism. “Oh yes, we get some heat from the purists out there. People tell us all the time that we cannot do certain things like throw in musical acts into our clips. But we treat our clips like television shows – they are like mini time capsules. Breaking format is what we do. The traditional thinking person is not going to understand or appreciate what we do but your kids are going to love it.”
Cantu is documenting the Metro Detroit landscape and throwing everything he finds interesting on the web. He has been capturing hot rock music acts like The Tsars, The Antiquity, The Ruiners, and Lawncare. Cantu is also putting classic landmarks on the web including Greektown, The Crofoot Ballroom and Kingdom Nightclub. In addition to working with top talent and showcasing great cultural landmarks like the Detroit Music Hall Cantu has been busy working with some of Detroit’s hottest artists coming up like sculptor Jim Smutek.

“We are doing something brand new and embracing the web as a communication tool and in the process reshaping the economic landscape. Doing arts promotion with the web has been a eye opening experience for a lot of artists in Detroit. Many of them did not think it was possible. We are remodeling the  art gallery business model and getting plenty of publicity.” Says Cantu.

Currently, Cantu and partner Tracey Vitkay are getting plenty of publicity for their clients with such media giants as USA Today, CBS, NBC, ABC, NPR, PBS, Detroit Free Press and Hour Detroit magazine. In addition to the arts and cultural work Hot Metro Finds is teaching professional companies how to create 20k per week in revenue.
