May 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Who was going to take the trophy? Would it be the Cyclones, with their lightning blue shirts and nerves of steel? Or maybe the dangerous Crimson Tides, who were ready for battle? Or would the Go-Getters charge up and topple both challengers?

The competition was fierce last week at Elant at Goshen, where residents from the Adult Home battled it out during the Wii Bowling Championships against clients from Adult Day Health program and the Daybreak program.

The dining room was packed, with each 5-bowler team and its supporters taking up one side of the room. The fourth side was dominated by an enormous TV that would display the bowling lanes and the scores.

“We strive to offer modern programming for our residents and registrants, and the Wii is just perfect for that,” aid Chris Bockis, Elant at Goshen Adult Home activities specialist. “Everyone involved was very excited; the planning itself included just about everyone from each of the three programs.”

In fact, weeks before the first virtual ball rolled down the virtual lane, participants from each Elant at Goshen program raised money before the competition to help buy the grand prize for the games: a Wii Karaoke game!

Pre-game activities for participants also included a few decorating sessions in the dining room, where the festivities were planned. There, each team and its supporters created and hung encouraging signage and streamers in each of their respective sides of the room. In addition, T-shirts were emblazoned with a shortened version of each bowler’s “game” name. Some of the competitors included Dangerous Dan, Mary Marvel, Wild Bill, and Lucky Lydia.

The spectators showed their team loyalty by wearing team colors, or by waving tiny colored flags.

“I loved the companionship and how each team worked together,” said Virginia Bierilla, Elant at Goshen Adult Home resident and Bowling Championships spectator.

In the end of the nail-biting battle, it was the Adult Home Cyclones who took the win, beating out the Adult Day Health program clients by just a single point.

Alas, the Adult Home residents have already vowed to share their prize – the Wii Karaoke – with their conditional foes. And the losers? They are already gearing up for a rematch.

“I commend all the bowlers and hope we have more of these events,” said Adult Home resident William “Wild Bill” Suda. “It was a lot of fun.”
