Wine and Design Supports InterAct’s First Annual Rock for Kids Event

Fundraiser raises awareness and funding for organization’s Children’s Counseling Programs

May 31, 2010 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, NC – Wine and Design, Raleigh’s first and only wine and painting party company, was a supporter of this year’s Rock for Kids presented by Ridgewood Shopping Center and sponsored by Carolina Locum Resources and Parker Poe.  This was the first year for the event, which raised over $27,000 for InterAct’s Children’s Counseling Programs.

InterAct is a private, nonprofit United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault.  Rock for Kids began when two InterAct Board Members, Ashley Techet and George York, decided to raise awareness and funding for the organization’s Children’s Counseling Programs.  The two assisted InterAct in forming a phenomenal volunteer committee—largely new to InterAct—that put together the successful fundraiser in just eight weeks.

Wine and Design donated a choice of three painting packages to the event’s silent auction, which was held at Foster’s American Grille in Raleigh.  This is the first year that Wine and Design has supported InterAct and company co-owner, Harriet Mills, says that Wine and Design will keep supporting InterAct for years to come.

“We chose to support InterAct because we wanted to do something to help the families affected by abuse—especially the children,” says Mills.  “Reading the number of the domestic violence cases in just Raleigh really shocked me!  For us to be able to raise money to help families get the help and support they need really makes us feel good.”

InterAct Development Officer, Allison Strickland, says that InterAct used to offer two full-time children’s counselors, which were eliminated in 2010 due to budget cuts and lack of funding.  Fundraisers and corporate support are ways for the organization to help fund this invaluable resource.

“When you take into consideration the loss of our children’s counselors with the fact that we have seen a huge increase in clients using InterAct’s services since the economic downturn, every donation and every volunteer truly does count,” says Strickland.  “Without the support of businesses like Wine and Design, InterAct could not provide life-saving services to over 43,000 people each year.”

Strickland adds that in 2009, eight families, on average, entered InterAct’s doors each day.  In 2010, that number has increased to 18 per day.  Given the success of this year’s event and the impact it will have on their efforts, she says that InterAct hopes to hold a similar event next year.

About Wine and Design
Wine and Design is the dream of longtime friends and business partners Emmy Preiss and Harriet Mills.  The premise of the business is to provide “memories and a masterpiece” in just two hours.  Painting sessions are led by a local artist who provides step-by-step instructions to first-time painters, aspiring artists, or self-proclaimed pro’s that result in an individualized work of art.  Wine and Design accepts general reservations, but also books private parties.  Bridal showers, baby showers, Bunco, and girls’ night out are just a few of their offerings, as well as a selection of events just for kids.  The company also hosts fundraisers, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the cause.  For more information, call (919) 374-0667 or visit their website at www.wineanddesignnc.com.
