Follow on Google News | Atlanta's International Soccer Fest 2010 Benefits SOS ChildrenThanks to the business and cultural community of Atlanta, Georgia, soccer fans in this southern US city are about to celebrate the 2010 FIFA World Cup in a fun way that will also benefit children around the world.
Partnering with other bilateral chambers of commerce, consulates, the World Trade Center Atlanta, and community organizations such as SOS Children’s Villages Atlanta Supporters, the festival is designed to raise funds and awareness for SOS Children’s Villages. SOS is the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to raising children who can no longer grow up with their biological families. The organization operates 500 Children’s Villages in 132 countries. SOS also runs family strengthening programs, provides medical counseling and treatment, and educates local children living near its villages. When war or natural disaster strikes, SOS provides emergency shelter and other assistance to affected families. Soccer with a Purpose During the Atlanta International Soccer Fest 2010, game-viewing parties and friendly soccer matches throughout Atlanta will give local residents an opportunity to feel closer to the excitement taking place in South Africa. While enjoying themselves they’ll also be giving vulnerable children the gift of a loving SOS home. Select venues around Atlanta will show the World Cup games live on big screens while patrons enjoy world-class food and drink supplied by local restaurants. On June 12, soccer teams from Atlanta-based bilateral chambers of commerce and consulates will play each other in friendly competitions. FIFA and SOS Children’s Villages Six SOS Children’s Villages -- in Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Vietnam, and Ukraine -- were built with funds raised by FIFA and SOS during their joint “6 Villages for 2006” campaign, the official charity project of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
