By: Saint Mary Academy Bay View The top three students are: ARIANA SANTOPIETRO, Valedictorian for the class of 2010 is a quiet, unassuming, academically gifted young woman, whose passion for learning has earned her numerous academic awards including a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition, she is a member of the National and Rhode Island Honor Societies. Ariana has participated in the Bay View Ambassador Program and assists in our recruitment efforts as well as volunteering her time to tutor students in the Math Lab. She has also been a member of the Italian Club for the past four years and participated in the Italian Cultural Exchange Program. Ariana placed 5th in the state of Rhode Island in her category on the National Italian Exam. She is also the recipient of a new award, The Women’s Youth League of RI Scholarship, given to students of Italian at the highest level in their school. In order to be considered for this award Ariana submitted an essay written in Italian about how Italian classes prepared her for the academic study at the university level. In the fall, Ariana will attend Boston College and plans to pursue a career in medicine GINA ROBERTI, Salutatorian for the class of 2010 is a young woman whose gifts and talents are many. She excels not only academically but also in the area of visual arts and music. She has received numerous Scholastic Art awards throughout her high school years and recently won Best of Show for work submitted into the juried art exhibit “The Greening of Rhode Island.”She has earned several Gold Keys in the Scholastic Art Awards competition. She is also a talented cellist who was selected as a member of the Rhode Island Senior All-State Orchestra. She is a young woman truly respected by her peers and teachers. She is compassionate and has a genuine interest in helping women in remote areas around the world. She raised over $4,000 by selling jewelry during school, made by women in the Acholi Quarter of Uganda. In addition to financially help these women she was also able to educate her peers on their struggles. To quote her counselor, Mrs. Paris – “Gina is a Renaissance woman who shines academically and embraces the Mercy Core Values. “ In the fall, Gina will attend Brown University and plans to pursue a career in higher education. 3rd ranked senior is JENNA SOLOMON Jenna is an excellent student who exhibits a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills. She is dependable and has a great sense of humor. During the past four years she has been a dedicated member of the Indoor and Outdoor Track teams and the Varsity Tennis Team. She also helped tutor students in the Math Lab. In addition, she is an active member of the Mercy Action Club and Ambassadors Club. She has been very involved in the newly formed HOPE Environmental Club which has raised awareness of environmental issues and has been instrumental in instituting the recycle program at Bay View. Jenna will attend University of Rhode Island in the fall in the pharmacy program.
