What will OGC take over by Cabinet Office mean to the Public Sector?

June 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Last week’s breaking news that a newly created Efficiency and Reform Group (ERG) will take control of the Office of Governance Commerce and its procurement agency Buying Solutions reveals a clear intention of the coalition government to tackle public sector deficit. According to Supplychainmanagement.com, the ERG will have a strong mandate to ensure departments work together to tackle waste and improve accountability.

Indeed, Andrew Croston of DEFRA had already alerted to the fact that “the biggest impact of the coalition government on procurement is the immediate £6.2 BN recovery from government department’s budgets?”

The ERG will be overseen by an Efficiency Board, co-chaired by Francis Maude and chief secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander. Sir Peter Gershon will also be sitting in the board and will lead the ERG work on procurement issues. Maude said “We will need to be creative and innovative in order to make a real difference and look at new ways of working.”
