By: Marci Rosenblum The newly released 2010 All Nonprofit Organizations Compensation Survey by Abbott, Langer Association Surveys provides market-based pay data for 174 benchmark jobs, ranging from support staff to executive positions. Its 360+ pages include data covering almost 12,500 incumbents in nonprofit organizations from multiple states and the District of Columbia. Examples of the US average salaries reported by survey participants for four benchmark jobs, effective March 31, 2010, included: Benchmark Job US Average Annual Salary Fundraiser Employment Interviewer $51,618 Social Services Aide $27,877 General Maintenance Supervisor Although the above salaries are national averages for all nonprofits, breakouts are available by size (small and large) and by state. Specific surveys for different types of nonprofit organizations (human services, religion-related, hospitals, etc.) are also available so that each nonprofit can select the most appropriate comparable data for its market. Data from two other sources are also presented for each job title: 1) Nonprofit salary data from IRS Forms 990 and Department of Labor datasets, and 2) For-profit data from databases of ERI Economic Research Institute, used to develop ERI’s Assessor software (see http://www.erieri.com for more information) The information provided for each job includes a job description, total compensation, mean/median, percentile ranges, bonuses, and demographics of the sample. The information and the salary data from the different sources also includes 18 executive titles, thus providing nonprofits with the data they need to comply with the IRS rules on setting compensation, all with the purchase of one survey.
