July 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Robert Traynham, CU ’96, Chair of the Council of Trustees University Relations Committee and TV personality for The Comcast Network, was instrumental in the university securing a donation of television studio equipment for the university’s newly renovated TV station.

“As someone who graduated from Cheyney University with a strong interest in communications and political science, we could not think of a better University that was more deserving of our set,” said Robert Traynham.  “We are very pleased to know that students will be able to garner the necessary production and communications skills to graduate with the tools necessary to compete in today’s competitive workforce.”

The university’s president expressed sincere appreciation for this in-kind gift and for the leadership of Traynham in setting the tone to advance the university.  Howard-Vital said, “This will help us develop our Center of Excellence in Communications Media, Fine Arts, and Entertainment Arts.  Thank you Trustee Traynham!”

The set was gently used for about three years in the Comcast studios in Washington, DC.  It was designed by the award winning firm BDI and the set won numerous accolades for its forward looking design approach.  The design and construction cost for the set at the time was approximately $50,000.  The set was donated to Cheyney University as the Comcast Network commissioned a new set scene for 2010 and beyond.  Cheyney University was selected over other universities because of its close proximity to the Comcast Corporation’s corporate headquarters in Philadelphia and Cheyney’s commitment to educating students for a career in mass communications.

The Cheyney University campus community continues to participate in discussions about the legacy of excellence in specific academic areas and the development of centers of excellence that respond to the need for intellectual talent in the region.  As a result of these conversations, the university’s administration and faculty are aggressively working to develop a center of excellence in the area of communications media, fine arts, and entertainment arts, which builds upon the legacy of alumni such as the late Ed Bradley (CBS 60 Minutes).
