Amongst the many guests at this gala event will be representatives from Norfolk's Third Sector, Health and Social Care organisations along with Norfolk County Council, all celebrating this unique approach and opportunity for Norfolk's disability community. Norfolk has been in the forefront of the national drive towards providing services at the personal level with the individual at the forefront of all decision making. This has been led by a strong partnership between the Norfolk Coalition of Disabled People and Norfolk County Council along with NHS Norfolk and Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, driving forward personalisation within the county. Personalisation means thinking about care and support services in an entirely different way. This means starting with the person as an individual with strengths, preferences and aspirations and putting them at the centre of the process of identifying their needs and making choices about how and when they are supported to live their lives. Media organisations are welcome to attend for interviews or to cover this event. Photographs will be made available following the event for media organisations to use. They organise and take part in campaigns and run services that promote social equality and dignity for all disabled people. The NCODP regards having an impairment as a normal part of being human. Disability results from people with impairments being excluded by physical and social barriers and negative attitudes. Their main task is to challenge the many forms of discrimination created by these barriers and attitudes. The NCODP believes that disabled people must take the leading role in decisions that affect their lives both locally and as part of the national and international disability movements in which the NCODP plays an active part.
