Dr. Kevin C. Marler to Receive Impact of One Award from Komen Affiliate

July 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Dr. Kevin C. Marler, of Gladney and Marler Surgical Group, will be honored at the Northwest Louisiana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure 12th Annual Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon on Friday, July 30th at 11:30 am hosted by the Eldorado Resort Casino in the Grand Ballroom.

Dr. Marler will receive the Impact of One Award from the affiliate for his advocacy and dedication to those impacted by breast cancer. Dr. Marler is a General Surgeon and Board Certified Surgical Oncologist.  He is a graduate of The University of Oklahoma undergraduate program and medical school. Dr. Marler completed his 6 year general surgery residency at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport and a two year fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Illinois.  He has been in private practice for 13 years.  

“Dr. Marler had the daunting task of diagnosing me with advanced stage breast cancer at the age of 35 and one month after my wedding,” says Crystal Brown-Tatum; Luncheon Chair and Board Member. “Other doctors dismissed my concerns of a family history of breast cancer due to my age but Dr. Marler was determined to properly treat and diagnose my lump. As I continued through treatment, I was amazed at how many other survivors I met who spoke very highly of him and were thankful for his care and treatment.”

Dr. Marler is a member of the Shreveport Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, American Medical Association, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and Society of Surgical Oncology,

Dr. Marler is married to Carla Marler and is the proud father of one daughter Allie; a junior at Byrd High School in the magnet program, and one son Jake; a student at St. Mark’s School. In his spare time, he coached the 8 year old Little League East Shreveport All-Star team; the only Shreveport team in any age group to advance to the State Little League Championship Tournament.
