July 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Matthew D. Saltzman, a shareholder at Kolesar & Leatham, a Las Vegas-based business law firm, has been appointed by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to its Nevada State Advisory Committee.

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights investigates complaints of voter discrimination and denial of equal protection under the law due to race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, or national origin.  It also reviews federal laws and policies with respect to discrimination and submits its findings and recommendation to the President and Congress.

The commission has an advisory committee in every state and the District of Columbia to assist with its fact-finding, investigative, and information dissemination functions.  Members of the state advisory committee are specifically familiar with local and state civil rights issues, and they serve without compensation for a term of two years.

Saltzman received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987 and earned his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1993.

At Kolesar & Leatham, Saltzman concentrates his law practice on banking, corporate and commercial transactions, real estate, and privilege business licensing, including liquor licensing.

Saltzman is a member of the American and Nevada Bar Associations and has been admitted to practice before the federal courts in Nevada and the Western District of Pennsylvania.  He is also a member of the Nevada Bankers Association, has served as an instructor for the American Institute of Banking, and lectured on banking and bankruptcy issues at the Duquesne University School of Law and the California State University - Northridge.

Saltzman is involved in several public policy and political organizations. He is president of the Las Vegas Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Studies and serves on the board of directors of the Keystone Corporation, a Nevada political action committee.
