Aug. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Aug. 11, 2010 (Apple Valley, Minn.) – Minnesota's Second Congressional District candidate Shelley Madore won the Primary Election against Dan Powers with nearly 55 percent of the vote on Tuesday, August 10. Madore received 19,990 votes to Powers 16,528, with Primary voter turnout the highest in a decade, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State website.

Madore credits her win to a focused message against John Kline and personal contacts with thousands of voters.

"The focus of our campaign has always been against John Kline and his lack of representation in the district," Shelley Madore said. "And more importantly, his lack of leadership on issues such as retaining jobs, building infrastructure and making sure we are competitive internationally. We're going to be talking about jobs. We're going to be talking about the fact that 10,900 jobs have left the district since John Kline has been in office in the manufacturing sector alone."

The centerpiece of the Madore campaign is The 35 Cent Tour, calling attention to incumbent Representative John Kline’s “no pork” ideology, which might be perceived as protecting our tax dollars from being wasted.

“In reality, Mr. Kline has refused to request Federal tax dollars for important community projects, even when asked by our trusted county, city and school leaders,” Shelley Madore said. “What does that mean for the tax payer in our district? For every Federal tax dollar paid in our Congressional District, only 35 cents is spent here in our community. At the same time, John Kline voted for the bill that included the 'Bridge to Nowhere' in Alaska, among many other bills that included earmarks for other states."

States vary widely in the amount of Federal tax dollars they receive, from 61 cents to $2.03 for every dollar paid. Other Minnesota Congressional Districts receive an average of 77 cents.

But John Kline brings only 35 cents to Second Congressional District communities. He helps transfer taxpayers’ dollars to other states while ignoring local community needs. His refusal to request federal tax dollars for our community makes it much more difficult to attract businesses that need adequate infrastructure to support their transportation needs. Commuters and families sit in gridlocked traffic on unsafe roads and bridges, and students wait unnecessarily for space in college programs.

"As a state representative, I worked with county, city and school district officials throughout our Congressional District and often heard about their frustration with John Kline's refusal to support these important community projects." Shelley Madore said. “In fact, this issue was one of the primary reasons I decided to run for Congress. My research over the past few months has uncovered hundreds of stalled projects in our district; projects that would bring jobs, expand educational opportunities and help ease our gridlocked transportation system.”

The 35 Cent Tour will continue over the coming months, with stops in all seven counties. For more information, please visit www.madoreforcongress.com
