The Grauer School Awarded Prestigious UNESCO Membership

Aug. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Encinitas, CA----Dana Abplanalp-Diggs, Principal at The Grauer School in Encinitas, announced today the school has been awarded membership in the highly esteemed United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Association Schools Project Network (ASPnet) for the promotion of quality education.   The Grauer School is the exclusive Southern California representative in the worldwide network of UNESCO ASPnet, headquartered in Paris, France, and one of 11 select secondary schools nationwide.  ASPnet schools are considered “centres for innovation” and make a commitment to conduct pilot projects to promote quality education by reinforcing the humanistic, cultural and international dimension of education.

Abplanalp-Diggs notes, “We were selected for membership in this elite organization to help achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals that align with the schools programs that have been under development since inception.  This includes world concerns and the role of the United Nations, education for sustainable development, peace and human rights and intercultural learning.  They were particularly interested in our pioneering the concept of Expeditionary Learning, which encompasses all of these goals in one action.”  According to Dr. Stuart Grauer, Head of School, “This award is the outcome of our global humanitarian teaching philosophy that began back in 1988 when we established our influential Center for International Education, which became a part of Grauer.”
