Aug. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- While Hollywood is going 3-D to capture the imaginations of today’s movie-goers, Massachusetts filmmaker Chip Perro has created a comic book movie with a distinctive 2-D look.  Perro’s feature length adventure creates the vibe of a comic page splashed onto the silver screen. The superhero cast was filmed on a green screen set using green stools and boxes as placeholders, and a composite of up to fifteen layers of backgrounds and props were added.  The finishing effect to comic-ize the film’s style is a line traced around each actor, encapsulating the cast members in a moving outline.  “The excitement about the look of the film is amazing,” says Deborah Perro, the executive producer of "Mission Park".  The separation of the superhero characters from their surroundings creates an effect that has never been seen in a feature length movie.  Each frame has the look of a comic page, and the stylized colorization of each frame enhances the comic book drama.

Editing "Mission Park" was a more intense process then editing a scene from a typical movie shoot on a standard set.  Chip Perro, the movie’s screenwriter and director, edited the project using Final Cut, Shake and Cinema 4D.  It took ten months to go through the movie from the initial green screen edit to dozens of more detailed edits of each frame to add the backgrounds, props and character shells that complete the sophicated comic effect.  Perro explained that an editor needs a lot of imagination for this kind of editing to visualize where the actors are in the set, and exactly where the props and backgrounds should be as the film is being edited. “You have more control over some aspects of the project, but the editing requires considerably more imagination.”

"Mission Park" will premiere at a red carpet event at the Brattle Theater on Wednesday, August 25, 2010.  The official movie website is www.missionparkmovie.com.
