Aug. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- NORCROSS, Georgia – Military spouse Carolyn Szafranksi joined over 1,400 graduates, faculty, family and friends at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, GA for the 2010 Ashworth College and Ashworth High School Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, August 7, 2010. It was the largest in the school’s history. 286 Ashworth (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu) graduates attended, representing each of the school’s high school and college degree, certificate and diploma programs.

The Hinzeville, GA, resident received her high school diploma. Supporting Szafranski was more than 25 family members and friends in attendance. “Not only did I want to do this for myself, but to inspire others in my family to continue their education,” she said. Her daughter Theresa is currently enrolled at Ashworth High School.

Among the supporters was her husband, Sergeant First Class Joseph Szafranski, Sr who is stationed at Fort Stewart. The Szafranskis also have two children who are active duty, Private Second Class Sarah Szafranski, Fort Myer, VA, and Private First Class Joseph Szafranski Jr., Fort Benning, GA. They also have a son-in-law stationed at Fort Bliss, TX.

Ashworth Chairman and CEO Gary Keisling presided over the ceremony and was joined on stage by Dr. F. Milton Miller, Ed.D, Ashworth Vice President, Education and John Riser, Director of High School and Career School Diploma Program Development. Dr. Nicole Detling Miller, Olympic Speed Skating Team Sports Psychologist and Chief Instructor for the Ashworth School of Sports Psychology delivered this year’s commencement address.

“While distance education has become mainstream, it is not easy. To be successful, it requires drive and discipline and it’s clear that each of you possess these qualities,” Keisling said during his introductory remarks. “Today is a celebration of your success and your education is a contribution to helping you find your life’s great passion. All of us at Ashworth hope that in some small way we’ve been able to bring learning, experience and achievement to your life.”

Attending a live graduation ceremony has special significance for Ashworth graduates. The average Ashworth student completes their education online, from home, anywhere in the world without stepping foot in a classroom or ever meeting an instructor face-to-face. Not only does graduation honor a long-standing tradition shared by students worldwide, for Ashworth grads it is quite possibly the first live interaction with faculty, staff and other students. 2011 graduates had the opportunity meet more than 40 instructors and staff members present at this year’s ceremony.
