Joseph Cattaneo, President of Glass Packaging Institute, joins June Stoyer, host of The Organic View

Aug. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- New York—August 25, 2010 –Mr. Joseph Cattaneo is the President of the Glass Packaging Institute. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, GPI is the trade association representing the North American glass container industry.  GPI member companies manufacture glass containers for food, beverage, cosmetic, and many other consumer products.  GPI also has associate members that represent a broad range of suppliers.  Through GPI, glass container manufacturers advocate industry standards and recycling, promote sound environmental policies and educate packaging professionals of the benefits of glass.

“In the 1970’s there was a big push for everyone to stop using glass because it was supposed to be bad for the environment. The movement encouraged the use of plastic bottles and packaging,” said June Stoyer, host of the program. “Now, 30 years later, we have seen the damage caused by these plastic materials and people are now demanding the glass bottles again. Glass is safer and can also be recycled. It’s a shame it took us so long to get it. ”
