Deadline For New Contest for Young Writers Approaching

Peak City Publishing and All Booked Up are sponsoring a contest for writers, ages 10-15. Writers must submit a 2,500-5,000 word manuscript beginning with the first line: "It was cute until.."

Sept. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- September, 1, 2010, Peak City Publishing announced the release of its first book, "The First Line, It Was Not Supposed to End this Way."  Proceeds from the sales ofof the book will be used to sponsor additional contests for young writers and publish winning stories.  

“We wanted to do something very special to encourage the young authors in our community,” said Shiloh Burnam, President of Peak City Publishing.  “Giving them the opportunity to have their work published provides confirmation of their talent in a very tangible manner.”  It is also a fantastic way to highlight talent on resumes and college applications.

“This is the sort of thing we want to do for our community,” said Janice Monaco, one of the owners of AllBookedUp.  “We firmly believe we have a great deal of talent in this area, and want to find ways to show that off.  We will be running more contests like this.”



ABOUT THE FIRST LINE: Stories of slackers, a dead world, a dreadful life and betrayal describes the winning short stories of The First Line Short Story Contest sponsored by All Booked Up and published by Peak City Publishing.  The stories, written by young adults, reflect the creativity and imaginative ideas of youth when presented with the challenge of creating a story based on the first line:  "It was not supposed to end this way."    Winning authors and stories include:  "At Least There's That" by Danny Gallagher "Daisies" by Monica Doebel "The Dreadful Life of a Fake Neon-Colored Daisy" by Katie Hockaday "The Betrayer" by Grace Guyer.
