Follow on Google News | Thali brings the flavours of North India to the Old Brompton RoadA new menu of authentic North Indian dishes forged over 50 years by three generations of one Indian family, which have now been given a modern approach, is to form the cornerstone for Thali, a new name for London diners.
By: Howard Robinson The restaurant, formerly known as Bar Asia, sits at the junction of Old Brompton Road and Drayton Gardens, close to Gloucester Road and South Kensington underground stations; a thriving area for restaurants, pubs and bars. Management of the restaurant remains in the hands of Vikash Dhawan and his family which, with Bar Asia, has gained an enviable reputation for delivering high quality Indian cuisine at reasonable prices. These prices have now been adjusted so as not to pass the full extent of the upcoming VAT increase on to Thali customers. Thali is an Indian expression for a selection of dishes which, although the new restaurant’s signature dish, is part of a broader menu developed and enhanced by Taj Group-trained Head Chef Dila Ram. Sample dishes on the new menu include: KARBAHARI FISH CURRY Halibut matured in spicy red chillies, onions & coconut milk with plain rice VENISON BHUNA Aged in spices, cooked in a tandoor & tossed with masala CHICKEN TIKKA MAKHANI Creamy fresh tomato sauce, flavoured with fenugreek leaves, spicy herbed butter HANSH KA KEBAB Duck breast marinated in lemon grass, lime juice & spices “This is an area well served by restaurants and Indian restaurants in particular,” The rebrand for the restaurant reflects its quality and emphasises its difference from other recognised Indian restaurants in the locality. The restaurant is also being developed to accommodate additional covers. Ends. End
