Songs for a New World Opens at BIG ARTS Herb Strauss Schoolhouse Theater on Sanibel

Oct. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- "Songs for a New World" opens Thursday, October 14 at BIG ARTS Herb Strauss Schoolhouse Theater with an opening night pre-show reception at 7 p.m. A collection of songs connected by the theme of living life to the fullest, "Songs for a New World" has been captivating audiences since its opening Off-Broadway in 1995. Soaring melodies and irresistible rhythms mark a wide range of songs influenced by multiple genres including jazz, pop, and gospel.
   This musical runs October 14 through November 6. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday, and start at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for child 16 and under.
   The Tony Award®-winning composer-lyricist of the hit musicals "Parade" and "The Last Five Years" Jason Robert Brown says of his "Songs for a New World," “It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice.” Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship, to 1775 colonial America with a flag maker at work, to present day in the Bronx, where a young man dreams of life as a basketball star. Contains some adult language.
   "Songs for a New World" is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), and is directed by Galloway Stevens. The show stars Joe Donnelly, Erin Edelle, Michael Fisher and Mara Jill Herman. Musical and Casting Director is Justin P. Cowan.
