Natural girls get excited for Little Miss "Happy" Headed Pageant, part of the Natural Hair Expo

Oct. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- On Saturday, November 27, The Nzuri Natural Hair Health & Beauty Showcase™ will feature the Little Miss "Happy" Headed Beauty Pageant™ for natural beauty queens ages 5-13 at the Power Center, 12401 South Post Oak Road, Houston, Texas 77045 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.  

The Little Miss "Happy" Headed Beauty Pageant™ is unlike any other! This pageant is for African American girls ages 5 to 13 years old who wear natural, not chemically processed, hair. The purpose of this unique pageant is to give these young ladies a platform to showcase their natural beauty, foster camaraderie in our community’s younger generations, and encourage all young girls throughout the African Diaspora to celebrate being “Happy” headed, and embrace their natural hair, skin and beauty.

Not too long ago, Don Imus was noted for his racially insensitive comment where he called the Rutgers’ Women Basketball players, “nappy headed h…” The Little Miss "Happy" Headed Beauty Pageant™ is directly designed to play on the negative messages like his, and show that Black is naturally beautiful.

In addition to the pageant, the contestants will be able to attend the "Just Keeping It Real, Building Self Worth in Our Children” luncheon. Supporting the girls of the pageant will be the winner of Miss Black Texas USA Pre-Teen.

The entry fee is $35 with a completed registration form. Sponsorship is available for contestants. Registration and sponsorship information is available on the showcase website at www.naturalhairshowcase.com.

A portion of the proceeds from this program will benefit Shoes4School.org and the Honey Brown Hope Foundation.

General admission tickets are $10, children under 12 are free. VIP passes are available for $25 and give unlimited access to the full expo, preferred seating at all event shows, a Swag Bag, and free raffle tickets.
