Internationally renowned Otolaryngologist joins False Creek Healthcare Centre in Vancouver

Oct. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- False Creek Healthcare Centre (FCHC) is pleased to welcome Dr. Jeffrey Harris to their team of surgeons and specialists. Dr. Harris is an internationally recognized surgeon in the areas of Head and Neck Cancer, Thyroid and Parathyroid surgery.

When asked why he joined the Vancouver medical centre, he lists like-minded and innovative doctors and having access to advanced medical technology as his reasons.

Dr. Harris will be joining Dr. Javer and Dr. Manarey (computer assisted sinus surgery) in the Otolaryngology department, where he will be offering thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

Parathyroid Surgery
Parathyroid surgery is performed to treat hyperparathyroidism, a condition that creates an excess of hormones and calcium imbalance in the body. Having high calcium in your blood is more dangerous than having high cholesterol. High calcium increases your risk for cardiovascular disease and cancer, due to the buildup of calcium in your arteries.

Thyroid Surgery
Thyroid surgery removes all or part of the thyroid gland. It is frequently used to treat thyroid cancer, goiter, or an overactive thyroid. Suspicion on cancer is the most common reason for thyroid surgery – often thyroid cancer is cured by surgery alone and does not require the use of radioactive iodine.

Unlike traditional neck surgery, Dr. Harris employs a non-invasive technique that uses a ¾ inch incision. Not only does this require less surgery time, which means patients do not have to be under anesthesia longer than necessary, but it also means a quicker recovery.
