Oct. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Have you noticed when you open a window that has a screen outside of it, that it looks like it has been sprayed with dirty water?  It's because the screens are very dirty and rain has pushed the dirt off the screen and onto the window.  It can make a clean window look bad and quick!  If you are going to spend your money or time cleaning your windows, it’s best to make it count and last as long as possible.

The fix is simple.  If you’re going to clean your windows, the screens will need to be cleaned too.  It’s a step that just can’t be skipped.  Cleaning your screens helps in keeping  your windows cleaner longer and it also makes them less visible, allowing more light into your home.

Screens collect an awful lot of dust, dirt, pollen and other airborne yuck that you really don’t want washing off onto your clean windows, or worse blowing into your house and going into your respiratory system.

A popular method for cleaning screens is brushing them off, scrubbing them, rinsing them and letting them dry.  At Beckon Call we use a little different method and our customers really like how clean the screens are.  Unfortunately, I’m not going to be writing about the process we use at Beckon Call.  But this following process works pretty well!

How to clean screens:

Step 1: I recommend collecting all of the screens from your home and getting them to an area that they can all be cleaned easily and at the same time (driveway, back deck).   If you’re not comfortable remembering where they all go, mark each with a Sharpie indicating room and window it came from.

Step 2: Take a soft bristled brush and gently brush off each screen, make sure to get both sides and the frames.  Be careful to not breathe in this dust, it is really nasty!

Step 3: Fill a bucket with warm water and a good general purpose cleaner.

Step 4: With a soft brush scrub each screen completely, ensuring to get both sides and all the edges.  Lay them flat on the ground, and stack them up as you go.  When you are completed scrubbing you should have a stack of sudsy, scrubbed screens.

Step 5: Rinse each screen with a strong spray from a garden hose.  A slight fan setting is good, almost a stream – but not quite.  Lean screens against side of house or another object so they are standing upright and drain easily.

Step 6: Wipe each screen dry and reinstall in window frames.

There are many steps Beckon Call uses in cleaning windows, cleaning the screens is just one of the many important steps to ensure a quality job that lasts.
