Community Garden Visionary Tarsha Gary named a 2010 Bank of America Local Hero

“CRAVE” Gourmet Bakery and Catered Café Owner/ Chef and Ecotone Proprietor Tarsha Gary honored by Bank of America Charitable Foundation for community garden initiative and outreach
 
Oct. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Chef Tarsha Gary was among five honorees selected by Bank of America as a Houston Local Hero and honored at the 2010 Houston Neighborhood Excellence Initiatives Awards Ceremony on October 27th, 2010 at the Bank of America Center in downtown Houston. Local Heroes contribute significantly to the health of their neighborhood through volunteer service and civic engagement. With this recognition, they directed a $5,000 donation from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to an eligible nonprofit of their choice. Gary selected “Community Artists Collective”; a community center that focuses on art education, community development, entrepreneurship, and exhibition, displaying local and national African American artists'.
“I am honored to receive this designation and recognition from Bank of America.  It is outstanding to know that Bank of America Charitable Foundation is making this type of investment in our communities and designating us as local heroes,” says Gary. “I will continue to strive for positive change globally beginning with the communities we immediately live in.”

ECOTONE is a “green” vision catalyst started by Gary offering sustainable solutions via organic approaches to meeting the needs of urban communities, organic commerce and ecological global enrichment. The ground breaking site is hosted at St. Charles Street Community Garden located at 3616 St. Charles Street in the heart of historic Third Ward and charted to be an intimate allotment garden specifically designed to service its immediate surrounding community.

Gary was among the 2009 Houston’s Top “40 Under 40” Professionals honored by the Houston Business Journal and named a 2010 Texas Blazing Star from The Woman’s Chamber of Commerce of Texas.. In addition, she is a successful mentor and teacher via her “Community Kids Cook w/Chef Tarsha” Summer Cooking Camp. Community Kids Cook” program is designed to promote/develop healthy, fresh food education as a means to combat childhood obesity by developing the culinary skills of community youth,
particularly those who may not otherwise have exposure to such practical and artistic development
