Nov. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Aulander, NC---When you first meet CJ Ballance, his dimpled smile with braces and Southern charm wins you over immediately.  He looks like the typical cute, energetic 14 year old young man---but, when he steps onto the stage and hits the first note, there is nothing typical about his voice.  Listening to CJ takes you back to the time when another pubescent singer began to make his mark with Motown Records.

"I think he's the Michael Jackson of gospel music", states Bobby Parker, Vice President of the North Carolina Gospel Guild, and radio announcer.  Everywhere CJ performs, audiences are blown away by his vocals and stage presence, as was evident during his performance at the 2010 Luther Barnes Fall Classic.

"If God Said It " is the first national gospel release for the young teenager. It's a giant leap from his singing debut at the age of 2 at his daycare center, singing the trademark Barney (the iconic purple dinosaur)  song, "I Love You". Seeing the reaction of his audience at the time, gave CJ confidence, and he enjoyed making others happy with his singing. "I didn't realize the gift I had at the time," says CJ. "But it was something I liked doing."

With the love and support of his parents, Tondra Peele-Ballance and Corey Ballance, Sr., CJ began taking vocal training at the age of 7. It was his parents desire to help their young son fully understand the anointing placed on his life.  With a maturity well beyond his years, CJ shares, "My main motive in singing is to touch people. I really put my heart into it and I want people to see their situation differently after they hear me."

At the tender age of nine, CJ was dropping his debut CD entitled, "Not Too Young to Serve Him," which spoke to the calling over his life. The project was well-received in his native Ahoskie, North Carolina and allowed him the opportunity to tour the region singing and performing songs from the project, such as "He's A Good God."

Learning from the experiences of his debut CD, and entering into his teen years performing, CJ and his parents felt it was his time to go national. Thurman Lee, songwriter and record producer of Gospel Visions Entertainment, saw CJ perform and knew immediately that this kid had the "it factor". "I was blown away when I saw him perform. I just knew CJ was something special," says Lee. "If God Said It," is a collection of original contemporary gospel songs, written and produced by Thurman Lee. "CJ helped co-write some of the songs on the project. This young man is just super talented and a gift to the Kingdom".

What is expected to be the break-out single on the project, "I Don't Look Like What I've Been Through," featuring CJ's pastor, Rev. Franklin Williams. The single is described as having an old-school vibe, but with a current on-time message. Singing with his pastor is second nature to CJ. "Singing with him was great, but we sing a lot together in church,so it wasn't new to me singing with him on this record."

Each Sunday morning, you can find CJ and his family worshipping at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Ahoskie, NC. In addition to singing, CJ plays the saxophone and the piano. CJ and his sister Ebone' (who is a background singer on his CD) are also in the mime ministry at their church. Ministry and music is a family affair for the Ballance family. It is his family that keeps the young musician grounded and focused.

Even though he enjoys playing sports and is a member of his high school band, CJ's passion for singing is evident "When I sing, I am in a world where nothing can go wrong." And CJ knows the struggles that teenagers face today, "We go through more than anyone could even imagine. I don't think adults can really understand what peer pressure is like today." It is CJ Ballance's faith and his walk with Christ as such a young teenager, that gives all that hear him encouragement and a sense of hope, as this young man puts his faith into action and uses his music as an instrument of service to Christ.
