Breast Cancer Author & Awareness Advocate to Receive Survivor Legacy Award

Crystal Brown-Tatum, Author of Saltwater Taffy and Red High Heels: My Journey through Breast Cancer, to receive 2010 Survivor Legacy Award from Pink Door Organization

Nov. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Crystal Brown-Tatum, President of Crystal Clear Communications and author of  Saltwater Taffy and Red High Heels: My Journey through Breast Cancer will be honored at the 2010 Pink Door La Noche Rosa Gala. The gala is the organization’s largest annual fundraising event which supports their three main breast cancer survivor programs: Pink Door Jobdoor, My Pink Wish and Women in Pink Scholarship Program.  The semi-formal “fiesta flair” gala will take place Saturday, November 13th at Villa Rinata in Houston, Texas.

“It has been my desire from the date of my diagnosis to set systems in place which leave a legacy of courage and strength for other women; particularly my daughter”, says Brown-Tatum. “Breast cancer revealed a new life purpose for my skills and ambitions and I am proud to be instrumental in continued awareness and advocacy which can improve future outcomes and possibly lives.”

Brown-Tatum’s memoir details her cancer journey from diagnosis through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation to the one year survival mark. She wrote the book after her own research revealed a lack of books authored by young African-American breast cancer survivors. “As I look forward to a cancer-free life, I realize that despite my aggressive advanced stage diagnosis in 2007; this has been an amazing time in my life and proof that cancer doesn’t mean the end of life. It is the beginning to really living your life”, Brown-Tatum adds.

She has been featured in more than 20 national and local magazines and newspaper articles for her breast cancer journey and advocacy and was featured in October of 2010 on the Discovery Channel Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Documentary. She is a member of Sisters Network, 2010 Bossier City Race for the Cure Sponsorship Chairman and a Northwest Louisiana Susan G. Komen for the Cure Board Member.
