Carolina Center Offers Thimerosal-Free Flu Shots and Discusses Beating the Flu at Upcoming Seminar

According to studies, an individual’s chance of getting quite sick with influenza is 10% to 20% each year.  A flu shot can reduce the risk of severe illness by 70% to 90%.  Immunizing children is among the more powerful ways to reduce the effect of influenza on entire families and communities.  Unfortunately, flu vaccines are preserved with a mercury-containing substance called Thimerosal.  

“Standard flu shots will add substantially to the body’s own mercury burden, which in turn will tend to weaken the immune and nervous systems over time,” explains Dr. Pittman.  “Fortunately, there is a Thimerosal-free flu shot alternative.”

In a recent scientific report titled "Mercury exposure and children's health," which was published in the September 2010 issue of Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care, authors of the report conclude: “Mercury is a highly toxic element; there is no known safe level of exposure. Ideally, neither children nor adults should have any mercury in their bodies because it provides no physiological benefit…Mercury exposure can cause acute and chronic intoxication at low levels of exposure...Mercury is a global pollutant, bio-accumulating, mainly through the aquatic food chain, resulting in a serious health hazard for children."  The report goes into detail on the various ways that low-level exposure to mercury can damage the human brain, nervous system, kidneys and immune system.
