Chattanooga Music Retailer Champions Local Artists

These days, Walmart and iTunes.com are where most Americans go to buy their music, whether it's Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, or Paramore. Local record stores are fading fast. It takes guts and real entrepreneurial spirit to keep independent record stores alive.

Nov. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- When was the last time you were in a REAL record store? I don't mean the electronics department at Target... I'm talking about an honest-to-goodness record store like in the "old days."

You know what I mean (if you were buying music before CDs were invented), that place you go where all they carry is music and music related items such as T-shirts, posters, concert tickets, music memorabilia, etc. You know... a RECORD store!

Such independent retailers still do relatively well in metropolitan areas like San Diego, New York, and Phoenix. But, are there any real record stores in places like Chattanooga and Cleveland, TN? YES!

Compact Discovery (http://www.CompactDiscovery.net) in Chattanooga, and Inherent Records (http://www.InherentRecords.com) in Cleveland, sell music the old fashioned way... with expert knowledge of, and a deep and sincere love for music.

Art, the owner of Compact Discovery has been in business in Chattanooga more than 15 years. Throughout those years he has been an avid supporter of local musicians by selling the music of unsigned local artists, attending their shows, and promoting local events by displaying posters in the windows of his establishment in the Ridgewood Village Shopping Center at 5611 Ringgold Road. There you'll find music by international and local artists, T-shirts and ball caps emblazoned with the images of your favorite artists, as well as cool jewelry, and memorabilia locked in a glass case. This is not a hole-in-the-wall retailer... Compact Discovery is remarkably large in size, compared to some independent record stores.

Bobby, the owner of Inherent Records located at 2372 Blue Springs Road in Cleveland, supports local artists by selling their music, displaying posters of local events, and even holds concerts inside the store. You can't miss the large PA speakers set up in the cozy space next to Don's Music (a musical instrument dealer). Bobby also plays guitar in a band that offers "cinematic post-rock," which is quite enjoyable, and suitable for background music at a party, or in the home while you're working on your next novel about the subtleties of urban sub-culture (I don't know what that means).

Both of these independently owned and operated record (or for those under the age of 25, entertainment media) dealers will carry the new CD by the artist known as, "A Man Called Bruce," whose new disc features Americana Folk music with an edge.

Live music fans, check out "A Man Called Bruce" performing a FREE, all ages concert at Bradley Square Mall in Cleveland, TN on Saturday, November 27th from 7 to 9 pm. Visit http://www.AAAMediaLLC.com for more about this artist.
