Sandwich Caregiver Radio Show to Discuss Projects that Bring Activity back to Alzheimer's Sufferers.

Amir Parsa, Director of The MoMA Alzheimer’s Project & LPGA Pro Renee Powell will be the Featured Guests on North Ohio’s WHBC 1480 Talk Radio Show, Wriggling in the Middle, On Monday December 13th at 9am (Eastern Time).
 
Dec. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Director of The MoMA Alzheimer’s Project, Amir Parsa and LPGA Pro, Renee Powell will be the featured guests on North Ohio’s WHBC 1480 Talk Radio Show, Wriggling in the Middle, on Monday, December 13 at 9:10 am (Eastern Time). Both Amir and Renee are here to discuss their work with people suffering from Alzheimer’s, Dementia and other chronic illnesses and how their projects are to be replicated through out the country.

Amir Parsa joins us to discuss, The MoMA Alzheimer’s Project which is the Museum’s outreach program for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and has been implemented in more than 50 museums nationwide.  The MoMA Alzheimer's Project offers training, resources and information to help make art accessible to people with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers.  Renee Powell has been working with SarahCare to bring golfing back to elders.  She believes that as the elderly relearn a game they once loved, other functions and memories can be relearned as well.  Both Amir and Renee will discuss what their projects offer to the community and why they are so important to not just those living with Alzheimer’s and other chronic illnesses but their caregivers.

Every Monday from 9-10 a.m. radio hosts Dr. Merle Griff and DeLores Pressley, co-hosts of Wriggling in the Middle (http://www.wrigglingonline.com), discuss the dilemmas and delights of being part of the ‘sandwich generation’ and responsible for the care of multiple generations.  As a special highlight, each show features an expert to add lively discussion and perspective to the show’s topics.  

Amir Parsa is a writer, educator, art theorist, and poet. He has developed and implemented programs for diverse audiences at the Museum of Modern Art, and has lectured on a wide range of topics in modern and contemporary art at MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and other museums and institutions across North America and around the world. An author of more than ten books in English, French and Persian he has been internationally acclaimed and read, performed, presented, and debated in Paris and New York, in galleries and museums as well as a visiting Associate Professor at Pratt Institute.

The MoMA Alzheimer’s Project recently won the Innovations in Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Legacy Award in the category of creative expression (The Family Caregiver Alliance and The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation) and the Community Leadership Award from the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter. Meet Me, which Amir co-authored and was published by MoMA in 2009, received the Excellence in Published Resources Award from the American Association of Museums as well as First prize in Museum Publication Design Competition (Category of educational resources). The Meet Me website also won “Best of the web” in the category of Education at the “Museum and the Web” international conference.

Renee Powell is one of only three African Americans to ever play on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour.  She is a golf professional, instructor, mentor and international ambassador for golf.  She received the 2003 PGA First Lady of Golf Award and was the first recipient of Rolex’s For the Love of the Game Award.  She also was one of only nine golf professionals to receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from The University of St. Andrews in Scotland, the birthplace of golf. Renee Powell is the daughter of the late William Powell, who owned Clearview Golf Course in East Canton. He is the only African American in the United States to design, build, own and operate a golf course. Clearview was declared a National Historic Site in 2001.

Dr. Merle Griff is an expert on caring for both children and aging parents.  She has been a delegate to the last two White Conferences on Aging and invited to present at international conferences such as the World Congress of Family and Child and the Annual Conference of the National Council on Aging. She has written extensively on intergenerational dynamics, including LinkAges, a book on intergenerational programs, as well as numerous articles including “Intergenerational Play Therapy: The Influence of Grandparents in Family Systems.”  She is the founder and CEO of Sarah Adult Day Services (http://sarahcare.com), which provides health related care for the elderly in centers so they can remain with their families and socially connected.

DeLores Pressley, motivational speaker and personal power expert, is one of the most respected and sought-after experts on success, motivation, confidence and personal power. She is an international keynote speaker, author, coach and the Founder of the Born Successful Institute and DeLores Pressley Worldwide.  She helps individuals use personal power to live their ideal life, increase confidence and lead a life of significance.
